A few questions to ask to a potential top/Dominant:
1. can you please tell me what BDSM stands for? Are there different traditions? Where does it come from?
2. What are the different safety protocols you put in place in order to protect your bottom/sub physically and mentally? Safewords? Weiterlesen… Aftercare?
3. In a scene where rope is involved what else do you think a top/dom needs in the room for safety?
4. When do you discuss limits and which tools do you use in order to discuss those limits?
5. What is the difference between top/bottom and Dominant/submissive?
If they don’t get those basics questions right: RUN.
As a new individual discovering D/s, ask those questions, don’t assume anyone is a Dom because they so.
Quiz them, vet them, no mercy, your safety first. Of course you need to be able to answer those questions yourself hence why knowledge is power and….safety.

The modern kink environment has ever increasing rates of *** and *** because it's filled with regular, vanilla people who are just as uneducated, selfish, insecure, and unethical as all vanilla people usually are.
BDSM takes ethics.
Terms are blurred, not defined, Dom is Top, sub is bottom and Weiterlesen… everything gets reduced to bunch of sexual fetishes while not even knowing or caring that we have traditions.
There is not one true way, but words matter, meaning maters, etiquette matters and most here are neither BDSM dominants nor BDSM submissives. Kinksters tops and bottoms at best, as if porn was having a threesome with Christian Grey and Victoria Secret.
Definitions then:
A Top is a person in a dominant role, in control of the scene AND is actively "giving" an activity.
A service top is a person in the submissive role, who is not in control of the scene, even though they are also actively doing the activity.
A Top Temporarily gains control through genuine consensual power exchange where power is transferred from the bottom to the Top with agreed-upon limits and restrictions for a limited time, called a "scene"
A genuine Top dictates the scene within agreed upon requirements, hard limits (restrictions), soft limits, and boundaries.
Dominant: An individual who has received and is competent at using substantial power exchange and authority, granted by the submissive in order to manage one or more aspects of their life up to 24/7, with agreed-upon limits, within an D/s relationship, where genuine power exchange extends beyond the parameters of a scene and form the basis of the relationship.
