A thought occurred to me about the story of Medusa. Her effect is she turns you to stone if you meet her gaze. What if it's a mistranslation? How do we know that she isn't still fine as fuck but everyone is just throwing smoke to keep eyes off her.

We read/are told: meeting the gaze of this vile Weiterlesen… beast will petrify the viewer eternally.

What I think: though the curse has made her less heavenly in sight, she is still a marvel to be held. Gazing upon Medusa will turn a man to stone and make their heart stop, as if petrified.

If everyone who has seen her is so smitten that they can't move from her presence, then that explains how everyone is presumed dead because she "killed" them. They're just so enamored with her that they don't want to leave her.
